After 13 years of educating the public on sustainability practices such
as recycling and green building techniques, the Florida House Learning
Center is beginning the process of being moved to a new location on the
campus of the Sarasota County Technical Institute. The move is required
to make room for SCTI’s planned expansion which will begin this fall.
The Florida House will be extensively updated to demonstrate retrofit
opportunities for existing homes and in the process of renewal seek new
partners and opportunities to serve our community.
The Institute is not the same as The Florida House Learning Center,
although it has acted as fiscal agent and one of the many contributing
partners. We played a key leadership role in the original design and
development of the Learning Center (now a joint venture of the UF/IFAS
Sarasota County Extension and Sarasota County) and we are excited about
helping to actualize its future.
